At The Employment Opportunities List (The EO List), the privacy of our visitors is of extreme importance to us. This privacy policy document outlines the types of personal information received and collected by The EO List and how it is used.
Canadian privacy legislation defines “Personal Information” broadly as information about an identifiable individual or as information that allows an individual to be identified. For the purposes of this Policy, Personal Information means information about an identifiable individual as defined from time to time in applicable privacy legislation. Generally speaking, Personal Information does not include what is considered business contact information; i.e. an individual’s name, title or position, business address, telephone number and business e-mail address.
The level of Personal Information we obtain about our members is very limited. The EO List collects and uses Personal Information about our network members in order to determine how best to provide resources. More specifically, we may collect, use and disclose Personal Information for the following purposes:
- to distribute our Friday e-mail;
- to make announcements regarding upcoming events;
- to generate statistics regarding the network membership;
- to distribute surveys to gather information for blogs or articles; and
- for other reasonable matters related to the purpose of The EO List.
The types of Personal Information The EO List may collect include an individual’s name, personal e-mail address, LinkedIn profile, Twitter handle, referral source and referral date. In the course of providing services, we may collect or be exposed to a wide variety of other Personal Information about a member including employment status, employer, age, gender, family status, disability, creed, ethnic origin, compensation, professional designation, experience level, language preferences, home address and telephone. Access to the member list is limited to those who legitimately need to know. We do not share the members list with the advertisers on our site, and we use Paypal to perform credit card transactions to limit our access to financial data containing Personal Information.
By submitting Personal Information to The EO List, you agree that we may collect, use and disclose such Personal Information in accordance with this Privacy Policy and as permitted or required by law. Subject to legal and contractual requirements, you may refuse or withdraw your consent to certain of the identified purposes at any time by contacting The EO List’s Chief Privacy Officer identified below. If you refuse to consent or withdraw your consent, we may not be able to provide you or continue to provide you with certain services or information which may be of value to you. If you provide The EO List with Personal Information of another individual, you represent that you have all necessary authority and/or have obtained all necessary consents from such person to enable us to collect, use and disclose such Personal Information for the purposes set forth in this Privacy Policy and in accordance therewith.
There are circumstances where collection, use or disclosure may be justified or permitted or where we are obliged to disclose information without consent. These circumstances could include:
- Where the information is publicly available;
- Where required by law or by order of a court or tribunal;
- Where we believe, upon reasonable grounds, that there is an imminent risk of death or serious bodily harm to an identifiable person or group;
- Where it is alleged that an EO List team member is guilty of a criminal offence or guilty of malpractice or misconduct; and
- Where it is necessary to establish or collect fees.
In such circumstances, we will not collect, use or disclose more information than is required.
The EO List endeavours to maintain adequate physical, procedural and technical security with respect information storage facilities so as to prevent any unauthorized access, disclosure, copying, use or modification. Your Personal Information is stored using secured methods.

Log Files
Like many other Web sites, The EO List makes use of log files. The information inside the log files includes internet protocol ( IP ) addresses, type of browser, Internet Service Provider ( ISP ), date/time stamp, referring/exit pages, and number of clicks to analyze trends, administer the site, track user’s movement around the site, and gather demographic information. IP addresses, and other such information are not linked to any information that is personally identifiable.
Advertising
The EO List is part of the HR Blogger Network, an exclusive network of HR-focused blogs. To earn some revenue from our blog content, The EO List, along with the other bloggers in the HR Blogger Network, serve ads on and off our blog via third-party partner, ReTargeter. ReTargeter uses cookies on our site (and other sites in the network) to serve relevant ads to our visitors on our blogs and on other sites around the web.
Our other advertisers include Google Adsense and Amazon. These advertisers may use cookies and web beacons on our site.
Cookies and Web Beacons
