The title of this blog is a quote from Mr. Hand from the movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High, as seen here:
When I think about the chaos that is Toronto City Hall, I am reminded of this scene in the movie.
I need to make an assertion. We here in Toronto, we ALL must be on dope.
- To have never planned for how to deal with an out-of-control situation.
- To let ourselves be a spectacle on the world stage and the butt of highly unflattering jokes.
- To suggest that we are far more permissive about cavalier behaviour than we really are.
This town is a serious place of business. We’re an economic engine. We do good work. It is cool here. We’re the centre of the universe. Let’s act like it.
I think I need a drink, except to say that might suggest I have a problem. Strike that, reverse it.
Oh wait, that’s a line from another movie great movie.
This monumental distraction from the day-to-day is going to kill us.
HR Folks, let’s set an example. Let’s all get back to work. Stay off the internet to get our hourly updates. Our voyeurism is only perpetuating the problem.
